George C. Butler unseated the 10th District’s incumbent Michael R. McGee in the 1992
Aldermanic election. Butler earned a degree in Police Science from Milwaukee Area
Technical College in 1974 and was previously a Milwaukee Police Department (MPD)
Recruiting Sargent on unpaid leave from MPD to become the 10th District Alderman. He
was a former Marine (1958-1961), in the Coast Guard Reserves (1967-1976) and Army
Reserves (1976-1980). In 2000, he was defeated in a very close race for reelection
by Rosa Cameron. He then returned to MPD and retired as a police officer. In 2002,
Butler unsuccessfully ran again after Cameron resigned as a result of her indictment
by a federal grand jury.
