Trinity Lutheran Church (Polk County, Wis.) Records, 1896-1968

Biography/History

In 1895 members of the congregation began meeting in Garfield under the guidance of the Reverend Edward A. Hage. The church was organized on September 21, 1896 by Reverend Hage who served as the minister until 1898. He had received his training at the Augsburg Seminary, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Services were held in the Garfield Town Hall and in the Bear Lake School from 1895 to 1900 when the church building was built and dedicated. The congregation had been incorporated on January 14, 1898. Norwegian was the language used for the services until 1912 and for the records until 1931. English became the dominant language thereafter.
