United Presbyterian Church (Wild Rose, Wis.) Records, 1873-1980

Biography/History

The history of the United Presbyterian Church of Wild Rose begins with the founding of the Caersalem Church in Waushara County, Wisconsin in 1859. The Caersalem Church functioned until 1925 when it dissolved, and members and records were transferred in their entirety to the Horeb Church in Wild Rose, Waushara County, Wisconsin.

The Horeb Church had been formed in 1907 following a great influx of Welsh farmers into the Wild Rose area. Under the leadership of a Welsh pastor named Ellis R. Roberts, thirty-five people met in the Rose Township Hall in November of 1907 to formally organize the Horeb Congregation. In 1910 the new church building was completed, and in 1925 the church enjoyed an increase in membership of sixty persons as it absorbed the Caersalem congregation. The 1930s and 1940s saw a slow but steady increase in membership and numerous improvements in the building and grounds. In January of 1959 members of the Horeb Church voted to give the congregation its present name, the United Presbyterian Church of Wild Rose, U.S.A.
