McCormick Harvesting Machine Company Time and Payroll Books, 1858-1901

Scope and Content Note

Payroll records of the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company prior to its 1902 merger into the International Harvester Company, containing the information noted in the abstract. Infrequent use of piece work is first noted in 1873-1874. Occasionally a summary of departmental totals is included in the 1858-1882 volumes.

The first 37 volumes (1858-1882) are arranged by pay period and thereunder by employee name. Subsequent volumes are arranged by department number and pay period and then alphabetically by employee name. The time periods of February-September 1876 and March-August 1884 are missing. After 1900 there are separate volumes for the foundries. Several small handbooks (Vols. 110-116) contain similar information for office employees and foremen for a short period of time. Although these volumes are not specifically identified, it is believed that they pertain to the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company.
