Television Bureau of Advertising Records, 1954-1993

Biography/History

The Television Bureau of Advertising was founded in 1954 by several members of the National Association of Broadcasters “to forcefully promote the use of television as an advertising medium.” The 650 members of the TvB are drawn from all segments of the broadcasting industry, including television stations, networks, station sales representatives, and advertising agencies. The major functions of TvB in 1993 were to develop new advertising revenues for over-the-air television stations; serve as the television industry’s voice to the advertising community; and provide marketing information to support local sales activities. The central activities of TvB included sponsoring seminars and workshops, participating in trade association conventions, and producing, gathering, and disseminating information about its members.
