Franks, a professor of Special Education at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, consisting of materials related to Franks' teaching career at UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire, including material about his development of classes and programs at both institutions for the training of early childhood special education teachers. Also documented are conferences, training programs, and studies related to the exceptional education of children at these two UW campuses as well as material related to Dr. Franks' involvement with studies, task forces, committees, and research projects on early childhood special education in Wisconsin. Also included are Dr. Franks' 2015 memoir Peering Into the Past to Get a Glimpse of the Future: A History of Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Preparation and the Division on Early Childhood in Wisconsin and an oral history interview with Dr. Franks reflecting on his career in early childhood special education.
