Scope and Content Note: Papers, 1969-2016, of Dr. Barbara J. Pellegrini, the mother of a son with learning disabilities and an activist and advocate for public special education. This collection contains material related to Pellegrini's role in advocating for resources for special education in Beloit and Rock County and in changing state laws pertaining to special education. The collection includes four notebooks compiled by Pellegrini in writing her self-published 2015 memoir, The Way It Was. The notebooks contain clippings, correspondence, resources, and other materials relating to special education. One notebook also includes correspondence (1981-1985) related to Pellegrini's job as the Comprehensive System of Personnel Development Coordinator for Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 17 (later renamed CESA 2). Also included are personal accounts from Suzanne Kendrick and Donna Mutschler about their efforts to secure special education instruction for their children.
