Milwaukee Road Reorganization Records, 1925-1988

Scope and Content Note

The 1925 Reorganization series consists of seven folders. It includes background information on the Milwaukee Road’s first bankruptcy, along with a 1925 reorganization plan developed by bankers Kuhn, Loeb & Company and National City Bank. The 1935 Reorganization series contains eighteen folders. It includes background information on the 1935 bankruptcy, financial records about expenses incurred during the reorganization, and several different reorganization plans.

The 1977 Reorganization series includes several boxes of materials about the three organizations that attempted to purchase the Milwaukee Road: the Chicago and North Western Transportation Co., the Grand Trunk Corporation, and the Soo Line Railroad. The materials contain correspondence, court documents, and newspaper articles. Other significant materials in the series include: general correspondence and court documents; newspaper articles about the 1977 Reorganization; background material on Save Our Railroad Employment, an organization formed by employees of the Milwaukee Road; a comprehensive strategic plan by Booz, Allen and Hamilton; and four different reorganization plans compiled by the Milwaukee Road trustee.
