George Schlesinger Colonial Currency and Autograph Collection, 1762-1864

Scope and Content Note

Some of the currency is intact, some has been canceled, and some have had the cancellation repaired. There is also a $10 bill from the Confederate States of America (1864), a $10 bill from the Mineral Point Bank (1839), a $10 bill of U.S. currency (1922), and a 12 shilling note signed by John Hart, a Declaration of Independence signer (1776). Other documents include letters from the Civil War, almanacs (1773-1798), wills (1700s), early printings (1480), and an inscribed papyrus fragment (circa 1500 BC).
