Frank J. Fuchs Letters, 1942-1945

Scope and Content Note

Mr. Fuchs was a member of La Crosse Aerie 1254, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and these are the letters written to him from fellow Eagles serving in the armed forces during World War II. The collection of several hundred letters runs from February 1942 through September 1945. The early letters are written from U. S. bases and focus on the thoughts, concerns, and daily lives of typical World War II soldiers. After late 1944 and into 1945, the bulk of the letters are written from overseas locations in Europe, China, Burma, India, and the Pacific although they still tend to deal with the more mundane aspects of a soldier's life, rarely discussing combat experiences. The collection also includes an Eagles roster, and an alphabetized address list of correspondents as well as three letters written by Mr. Fuchs but returned as undeliverable.
