The Schneider Boat Company was founded by Oscar D. Schneider in 1934. Schneider was
born in Milwaukee in 1906. He led the company until his retirement in 1968. The
company built small recreational boats, such as canoes, fishing boats, and dinghies,
and helped pioneer the use of plywood in construction. The parts and plans would be
ordered by mail and the customers would assemble the boats themselves. The company
operated out of facilities in Milwaukee on W. Vliet St., and later W. Lisbon Ave.
Schneider died in 1971.
