The Wisconsin Map Society, Ltd. was founded in 1976 by Wilfred Beaver, who was also
the president of the society. Its purpose was to support and encourage the
preservation of maps and other related items pertaining to Wisconsin. Membership
declined in the early 1980s and an attempt to reorganize based out of the Milwaukee
Public Library mid-decade failed. By 2011, the society ceased to exist.
