Lee W. Metzner Papers, 1882-1985

Biography/History

Lee W. Metzner grew up in Kewaunee, Wisconsin and graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1899. After graduating, Metzner worked for the State Bank of Kewaunee and subsequently enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he received a degree in finance in 1904. He married Mabel Arpin in 1909 and had one son, Charles. In 1919, after many years of banking experience, Metzner became Chairman of the Board at a bank in Casco, Wisconsin. He was also an amateur historian and many of his articles appeared in The Kewaunee Enterprise and other local publications. He principally wrote about Wisconsin history, telling the stories of early Kewaunee settlers and the history of Casco.
