The New Loretta Young Show Films, 1962-1963

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of twenty-six episodes from the half-hour dramatic-comedy television series The New Loretta Young Show. The series, which aired for one season on CBS from 1962 to 1963, presented a new format to the show's anthology series predecessor, The Loretta Young Show (1953-1961) hosted by Loretta Young. The New Loretta Young Show now starred Loretta Young in a recurring role as Christine Massey, a recently widowed writer with seven children and a career with a New York magazine. Also featured were James Philbrook as Paul Belzer, Massey's editor and boyfriend; as well as Celia Kaye, Dack and Dirk Rambo, Beverly Washburn, Carol Sydes, Sandy Descher and Tracy Stratford as Massey's seven children.

Approximately 26 episodes comprised The New Loretta Young Show. This collection contains all 26 episodes, including the series pilot, “House Warming,” and series finale, “When You Are Near.” All the films in this collection are 16 mm, black and white prints with sound, and a running time of approximately thirty minutes each. The visual quality of these prints is generally good although the quality differs between individual reels.
