Get Smart Films, 1965-1970

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of forty-nine episodes from all five seasons of the half-hour spy spoof Get Smart, which aired on NBC from 1965 to 1969 and CBS from 1969 to 1970. The comedic spy series created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry centers on the missions of bumbling secret Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, played by Don Adams, and his partner Agent 99, played by Barbara Feldon. Working for the covert U.S. government spy agency CONTROL, Smart and 99 try to stop the agents of the evil organization KAOS.

While a total of one-hundred thirty-eight Get Smart episodes aired on NBC and CBS over its five year run, this collection contains only forty-nine of the original episodes from all five seasons. All the reels in this collection are 16 mm prints with sound and do not contain original commercials, with a running time of less than 30 minutes each. The series pilot, “Mr. Big,” is in black and white. The visual quality of these prints is very good overall. However, many of the prints contain an apparent visual artifact, which produces a light clouding of the image.
