Everyone is called upon to perform many roles - even the elephant that does tricks in a flashy costume must later pull a van from the mire of a rain-soaked field. We see the performers practicing and polishing their acts, putting on the show for a local audience, and then packing up and moving to the next town. Ruth Stout's Garden, 1976 : Summary: Born in 1884, Ruth Stout has been gardening in an ecologically sound way long before it was popular. Yet she grows enough vegetables on a plot of land 45 x 50 feet to supply two people throughout the year. This innovative way of gardening is to be expected from a woman who at 16 smashed saloons with Carry Nation, who in earlier days liked to garden in the nude, who in her ninetieth year writes books and articles, and whose free spirit and colorful personality make her in demand as a lecturer to garden clubs. Under the Influence?, 1975 : Summary: Because every year 28,000 deaths, 2 million injuries, and inestimable property damage can be traced to drinking motorists, and since alcohol is involved in 59 percent of all traffic fatalities, the Los Angeles police department, conducted an experiment in order to determine the extent to which alcohol impairs judgement and reflexes in driving ability. A group of motorists, selected for their high tolerance to alcohol, are given 6 to 8 ounces of liquor to drink in 90 minutes, enough to raise the blood's alcohol level to .10 percent. They are then given a driving test. The test results are dramatic proof of driver impairment - there is a 22 percent decrease in the group's average score and up to 50 percent decrease for some individuals.
