Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of twenty episodes from the hour-long police procedural television show, Cagney & Lacey. Created by Barbara Avedon and Barbara Corday and produced by Filmways Pictures and Orion Television, Cagney & Lacey aired on CBS from 1982-1988 to much acclaim, earning each of its title stars more than one Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The show featured Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless in the title roles as Christine Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey, two female New York Police Department detectives. The recurring cast also featured Al Waxman, John Karlen, Carl Lumbly, Harvey Atkin, Martin Kove, Sidney Clute, and Robert Hegyes.

Cagney & Lacey ran for seven seasons, producing 125 episodes. However, this collection contains only twenty episodes from seasons 1-3, including one episode (“Better Than Equal”) featuring Meg Foster who played Christine Cagney in the first season until Sharon Gless replaced her in season two. Four of the episodes are on one reel each. The remaining sixteen episodes are on two reels per episode. All the reels in this collection are 16 mm color prints with sound and have a running time of approximately 50 minutes. The visual quality of these prints is fair with some medium-heavy scratching on some reels, although the quality differs between individual reels.
