Seth Leonard Foldy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1955. He entered into
undergraduate courses at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, from
1972-1974. He later attended Stanford University and in 1977 earned his B.A. After
graduating, Foldy enrolled again at Case Western Reserve University and graduated
with his M.D. in 1982. Foldy taught at various universities from 1987-2017,
including institutions such as Case Western Reserve University, University of
Wisconsin, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also served as the Community
Medicine Curriculum Director in Cleveland from 1987-1996.
In 1996, Foldy moved to Milwaukee and began working for the City at the Department of
Health. Mayor John Norquist selected Foldy to become the Commissioner of Health in
1998, a post he held until 2004. During his tenure at the Department of Health,
Foldy also continued teaching. After his resignation, Foldy later worked as a
consultant. In 2000, Foldy enrolled in the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee
and graduated in 2005 with a Master's of Public Health. Throughout his career, Foldy
has written numerous articles, belongs to various committees and professional
societies, and been awarded multiple honors. In 2017, Foldy moved to Colorado and
became the Director of Epidemiology, Informatics, and Preparedness at Denver Public
Health.
