William J. Heineman came to United Artists as part of the Benjamin-Krim management team and
served as vice-president of United Artists until 1967. Prior to this time Heineman had been
a theater owner, producer, director and general sales manager of Samuel Goldwyn (1943) and
Universal World Pictures (1946). In 1947 he became a vice-president for sales and
distribution at Eagle Lion Films. In his responsibility for production for Eagle Lion he is
probably best known for The Jackie Robinson Story (1950).
