Scope and Contents

This collection contains the personal papers of Jimi Reinke, a local Madison-area safe injection activist, and ARCW (AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin) community outreach worker. In addition to his work advocating for safe injection through the ARCW, Reinke was a prolific artist.

Alongside bibliographic information and personal writings, this collection also includes 3D artifacts, screen-printed materials, and other artwork created by Reinke. Most work contains references to Reinke's safe injection work, the nude human form, landscapes, and gay and lesbian erotic imagery.

Series 1 (Blue Flesh) features materials relating to Reinke's company, Blue Flesh Novelties, that focus on the various forms of human sexual expression. This series includes informational papers about Reinke's inspiration, as well as brochures and ephemera related to the products of Blue Flesh Novelties. To access the archived website, see the Related Materials Note in this finding aid.

Series 2 (Art and Artifacts) contains many pieces of Reinke's artwork, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. The majority of the art and artifacts contain depictions of the nude male form and/or erotic imagery. The titles of these pieces (and more) can be found in Series 2, Folder #4, in the bound art book.

Series 3 (Bibliographical Materials) features materials from Reinke's memorial exhibit that document his life and work, photographs of Reinke, a copy of "Our Lives," (a Madison magazine dedicated to LGBTQ+ life in the area), and a bound art book documenting Reinke's creative works.

Series 4 (AIDS/Safe Injection Work) includes materials that highlight Reinke's work with the ARCW (AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin) from 1999-2017. Most of this series includes copies and original papers pertaining to Reinke's AIDS/Hepatitis C/safe injection information One Shot zine series.

Series 5 (Exhibit Materials) includes poster-sized printed materials that were featured in the exhibit, "Jimi Reinke: Artist, Activist, and Friend" where his artwork was sold and benefited the ARCW (AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin).
