University of Wisconsin Extension publications

Scope and Contents

This collection includes University of Wisconsin Extension (UW Extension) fliers, magazines, articles, miscellaneous paper publications, compact disks, and DVDs focused on agriculture, gardening, community development, nutrition and health, financial literacy, parenting, state policy, visual art, and veterinary science. While the collection includes a few publications from the early years of Cooperative Extension, such as a 1922 edition of "Powdery Mildew of Ornamentals," the vast majority of the materials were published in 1965 or later, after Extension divisions including Cooperative Extension and the Geological and Natural History Survey merged into UW Extension.

Publications like "Evaluating Nutrition Information" (1980-1995) reflect new programs created during this era, such as the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program in 1968, and the Master Gardener program which began in 1974. As 4-H programs emphasized family health and parenting skills in the 1980s and beyond, UW Extension published relevant information from the "National Extension parent Education Model" (1994) to the series "Whose Kids? Our Kids!" (1992-2007).

The audiovisual materials, including compact disks, DVDs, and USB drives, are from 2004 to 2014, and focus on dairy management, financial literacy, nutrition, gardening, and the college transition. In 2015, UW Extension created six institutes, which are reflected in the publications. They include Agriculture, Community Development, Health and Well Being, Human Development and Relationships, Positive Youth Development, and Natural Resources.
