Goethe House was formed in 1958 and opened to the public in 1961. It was originally
known as Goethe Haus Milwaukee and later became Goethe House of Wisconsin in 2000.
Goethe House was located at the Milwaukee Public Library from 1960-1990. It is
currently located at the Technology Innovation Center in Wauwatosa. Goethe House was
founded as an organization to promote German culture by providing language classes,
hosting lectures, showing films, and when it was at the Milwaukee Public Library,
provided a lending library.
