The Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies is a part of the College of
Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Its goal is to preserve,
research, and share German-American culture, heritage, and studies. The Friends of
the Max Kade Institute was formed in 1983 as a means to support the activities of
the Max Kade Institute. The Friends raise money, assist in outreach programs, and
raise awareness of German-American studies to the general public. It incorporated as
a non-profit organization in 1990.
