Robert Neil Dick (1922-1996) worked for UW Extension from 1955-1990. He served as Director
of Administrative Services, Director of the Community Programs Division, and Assistant
Chancellor of UW Extension. This collection focuses on the programs and operations of the
University Extension Division from 1962-1965. During this period, Extension sponsored an
increasing number of conferences, institutes, and courses around the state such as the
November 5-6, 1964 Institute on Milwaukee Negro for Staff of City of Milwaukee Health
Department co-sponsored by the Milwaukee Urban League and the Extension Division Department
of Social Work. In 1965, several Madison-based extension units including the Cooperative
Extension Service of the College of Agriculture, the University Extension Division, and
WHA-Radio and Television merged to form an integrated unit, University of Wisconsin
Extension. After the merger, new departments such as the Institute of World Affairs
Education and programs such as Continuing Education for Women were established.
