Crawford Young papers

Scope and Contents

The Crawford Young papers contain materials primarily from professor Young's work in the in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They include files related to the Department of Political Science, the African Studies program and other university and campus committees, as well as correspondence, research notes, course files, and other research materials.

In addition there are files related to professor Young's participation in various honorary organizations including Fulbright, the African Studies Association, the American Political Science Association, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

Professor Young's research activities are documented by files on many of his publications, full research notes created for at least three of his longer projects, referee reviews, and file on research projects undertaken for a variety of foundations and research centers including the Rockefeller Foundation, the Wilson Center, the Ford Foundation, and the Institute for Advanced Studies.

Professor Young's correspondence is largely sorted by originating country of correspondent, however his correspondence with graduate students is separated from that of his other professional contacts and sorted alphabetically by name.

The collection also contains syllabi and exam questions for a number of professor Young's courses.
