This Commission, originally called the Community Christmas Commission, was made up of
12 members to be appointed as follows: four members for the term of one year, four
members for the term of two years, and four members for the term of three years,
each year thereafter, four members for the term of three years. The Commission was
to be continuous and permanent with the terms beginning November 1, 1916.
The Commission requested the Mayor petition the Common Council of the City of
Milwaukee to formally change its name to the Municipal Christmas Tree Commission in
1920. The name of the Commission was officially changed February 16, 1920. The
Commission’s final name change occurred March 8, 1995 when it was changed to the
Holiday Tree Commission. The Commission was abolished by the Common Council
effective January 13, 2004.
