This collection contains early records of the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) from 1967-1984. It is arranged into 5 series. The largest portion of the collection is the first series, Correspondence and Membership. This consists of correspondence between CLMP and various magazines, presses, and literary journals. Typically this correspondence is about the status of an application or a grant. Also included in this series are mailing lists, membership applications and renewals, and general correspondence within the organization.
The second series, Meetings, includes minutes, notes, and agendas from Board of Directors meetings, Executive Committee meetings, and the bi-annual Regional Meetings. The third series is Administration and Staff which consists of policies, forms, staff biographies, and some staff correspondence.
The fourth series is Grants. These are the Grants Committee meeting notes, nomination and final ballots for the Grants Committee, Special Assistance grants, and some grants applications. Some grants applications can be found in the specific magazine or press files in the first series. Also in this series are National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) grants and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grants which were dispersed by CLMP. The fifth series is Finances and Fundraising. This includes some budget reports, fundraising correspondence, direct mail, and an alphabetized list of foundations that were reached out to for fundraising.
The sixth series is Events, Contests, Projects, Etc. In this includes 13 years of the College Contest applications, cover letters, and administrative materials. There are applications for the Editors Fellowship for 1979-1981. There are materials related to library association conventions and conferences were CLMP attended. Also in this series is the Ford Foundation funded Distribution project, including proposals, correspondence, research, and reports.
