Biography/History

The Assistant Vice Chancellor supervised the academic support services of the Computer Center, Learning Center, Library, and Communication Arts Theatre. Zarling directed, assisted, and coordinated the activities of the directors in these four areas. In addition, he was very involved in the identification of potential problems along with planning for the future of the academic support services.

John Zarling was appointed as instructor for engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Kenosha Center for 1967-68 school year. After a leave of absence to work on his Ph.D. at Michigan Technological University, he accepted a position as assistant professor of engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He began working on February 1, 1971. On September 1, 1973, Zarling started working as Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor on a half time basis. He was promoted to Assistant Vice Chancellor in September 1974. In January 1975, Zarling took a leave of absence from his professional rank to accept a position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska. After a two year leave of absence, he resigned from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1977.
