The creation of the Kenosha County Bicentennial Commission was sanctioned by the
American Revolution Bicentennial Commission with the purpose of celebrating and
commemorating the bicentennial. One publication that came out of this project was
Kenosha County in the 20th Century: A Topical
History. With funds left over from that publication, they also published
Kenosha Retrospective: A Biographical Approach in
1981. Both publications featured chapters written by local historians and writers
with a concentration on local affairs and people in the 20th century. Kenosha County in the 20th Century was edited by John A.
Neuenschwander. He was joined by Nicholas Burckel, who also worked for the Kenosha
County Bicentennial Commission, to edit Kenosha
Retrospective. Jonathan Zophy, an assistant professor of history at
Carthage College, was a contributing author to the first publication. He wrote about
minorities in Kenosha. Angela Zophy, an adjunct assistant professor of history at
UW-Parkside, wrote a chapter on the UAW Local #72 for Kenosha
Retrospective. Their research notes are included in this collection.
