The Milwaukee Women's Art Library (MWAL), "is a space for the collective remembrance of
women and non-binary people of all ethnicities whose actions, work, and narratives may
otherwise become lost in the ebb and flow of the constantly shifting cultural landscape."
MWAL was organized by Chicago-based curator Ashley Janke and opened in August 2020 at the
Charles Allis Museum in Milwaukee. The goal of MWAL is to develop a library and archive,
"founded on principles of solidarity, difference, and action" to combat the overshadowing of
women and non-binary artists in their positions as artists and their communities.
