The Milwaukee Silent Club began as an unofficial organization in 1918, meeting in various
locations around Milwaukee, finding a semi-permanent meeting location at 221 West Water
Street in 1920. It was a fraternity until October 23rd, 1920, when women created their own
sub-organization within the fraternity. The Club's basketball team was formed on January
14th, 1921 with the bowling team following in 1934. The Club became an official organization
under state law on April 19th, 1922. The Club remained at the Water Street location until
1965 when it moved to 622 North Broadway. In 1982, the Club found a new permanent location
at 1725 South 11th Street. Then in 1983, the Club changed its name to the Greater Milwaukee
Association of the Deaf. (Based on an article, located in folder 22, written by Raymond
