Philippine Nurses Association of Wisconsin, 2007-2020

Biography/History

The Philippine Nurses Assocation of Wisconsin (PNAWI) was established in 2007 and inducted as the 38th chapter member of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) in 2008. The 13 founding members of the organization, Filipino nurses from area hospitals and nursing homes in Milwaukee, wanted to establish a professional organization that upheld the image and fostered the welfare of Filipino-American nurses in the state of Wisconsin. While the organization began in Milwaukee, membership was extended to Filipino nurses in Racine and Kenosha counties.

PNAWI assists and facilitates active participation of migriant Filipino nurses in adjustment to their new roles in the United States health care system and American society. Further, the organization's objectives are to unite the Filipino-American nurses in Wisconsin, to promote the highest standards of professional practice, to actively participate in community outreach by promoting health care, to promote personal growth by providing continuing education, and to collaborate and network with other health care organizations regarding problems and issues in nursing practice, education, and research.
