This collection contains 10 U-matic masters and digitized masters of short films from the
Community Media Project, created between 1992 and 1997. Films run between 3 minutes and 40
minutes. Each film individually documents a story of a youth or group of youths in the
Milwaukee area, and their experiences living in their neighborhood. Films were originally
shot on Hi-8 and then edited to U-Matic video using video editing tools at the time. Some
films are directed by UWM Film and Video professor Portia Cobb, who was the director of the
project at the time, but still feature youths from the Community Media Project.
