Growing Power's roots began with Will Allen establishing Will's Roadside Farm Market
in 1993 and his founding the Rainbow Farmers-Cooperative. Growing Power, a national
not-for-profit organization supporting the development of healthy community food
systems, based in Milwaukee, was established in 1998. As Growing Power and the "good
food revolution" grew, Will Allen received numerous awards and was a much sought
after speaker. In 2010 Allen helped launch First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move"
campaign. His book The Good Food Revolution was
published in 2012. Financial difficulties forced Growing Power to close at the end
of 2017.
