DARLENE JOAN (NITZY) GILLETTE was born on Sep 17, 1934 in Black Earth, WI.
She married Howard M. Field on Aug 25, 1956 at Lake Edge Lutheran Church, Madison, WI.
HOWARD M. FIELD was born on Aug 22, 1934 in Madison, WI.
Nitzy and Howard have 3 children:
1. Karen Lynn                 - Born May 7, 1963 - Milwaukee, WI
2. James Erik                 - Born Oct 7, 1964 - LaCrosse, WI
3. Mark Erik                  - Born Jan 16,1974 - Iowa City, IA
NITZY went to grade school in Black Earth and at Sherman in Madison, and graduated from
Central High School in Madison as Valedictorian in 1952. She graduated from St. Olaf
College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1956 and also met Howard while she was
attending there. Traveling around the country during Howard's Air Force career, dental
education and practice, Nitzy worked as a nurse in Harlingen, Texas; New Bedford,
Massachusetts; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She then stayed home for 25 years with their
growing children. In 1992 Nitzy received her Masters in Nursing at the U of Iowa. She has
worked at Iowa City Hospice for 7 years as a primary nurse. Her hobbies include
photographing family, especially grandchildren and flowers; golf and tennis.
HOWARD was an Air Force navigator for 3 years following graduation from St. Olaf
College. He is a native of Madison, WI. After the Air Force he attended dental school at
Marquette University. He practiced dentistry in LaCrosse and Stoughton, WI before he went
to Harvard University in Boston to get a Masters degree in Public Health Dentistry. Howard
became a professor of preventive and community dentistry at Louisiana State University in
New Orleans and now has taught at the University of Iowa Dental School since 1973.
Howard enjoys piloting a Bonanza airplane, playing golf, and gardening/landscaping
projects.
