Coles Camp Glen Flora Wis 26 January 1896 Dear parents and brother. I greatly apologize that it has been so long since I wrote to you again, but as the saying goes "better late than never" so I am writing now. As I do not remember having written since I came up here then I must tell you that this winter I am in the woods and have allready been here two months. Time goes so terribly fast here in America. It seems like not more than two weeks since I came up here. I am at quite a different place this winter than I have been before. It is in Chippewa co - about 100 miles (english) from Eau Claire. It was difficult to get a chance of getting to the woods last fall and then I did get to go up for the company which I usuaully work for during the summer. If that had not been the case, I probably would have been loafing around town. We have had good weather this winter, not very cold and only 9-10 inches of snow so no one can complain on that account. Besides we have it good with food and drink and a good camp ... [indecipherable] hale and hearty at all times. I don't know of any news this time. We are somewhat a little north of the sun and west of the moon* to know about anything. Finally with this a greeting to you all. Write back immediately. Andrew Lee Glen Flora Chippewa co Vis N. Coles camp * A play on words - contrasted to the idyllic location "south of the sun and east of the moon" as found in the old Norse folk tales.
