Author's Background: Thomas P Kinney is a sixth generation
resident of the Kinney homestead on Irish Lane. He is a gradu-
ate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in
History and is currently studying at Marquette University Law
School. Tom gave a presentation on the Irish pioneers of Fitch-
burg at the American Conference for Irish Studies in Madison
in 1991. The idea for a book to preserve this information was
conceived at that time, and was encouraged by the Fitchburg
community with special support from the Fitchburg Historical
Society.
