Town of Frankfort Fire Control Pond
The four fire departments that serve our township asked the
n, town board if we could supply them with a pond or a place where
0they could get water for fire fighting instead of going back to
their towns which would take considerably longer to refill their
The proposal was brought to the voters to build a fire control
C pond near the center of the township and on a hard surface road.
After a number of sites were discussed, it was decided on a two-
acre site on the Vernon Leffel property in Sec. 16 on Cty Trunk
E for the price of $1,100.00. This was done in July 1987.
Y The pond site, dikes and set backs from property lines would
cover about 1 1/2 acres with 1/2 acre left for a parking lot. This

the dry spring of 1990 when we had numerous grass fires. On
April 4, 1990, it was necessary to call four fire departments to
control the raging grass fires and many tanker loads of water
were used. The total cost of the pond was $20,116.17.
