Elm Hill Monday 28th ____ 1853 My Dear _________/ In asking a question which you will find in some form before I conclude this letter, I am but acting accordingly to my conviction of what Divine providence would have me do. I firmly beleive that God governs and directs in human affairs, and that He intersts Himself in what may be termed small matters. How much more in those of the highest moment. I have sought unto God, in all things, ever since I learned to trust Him. It is of course possible for the most carefull to mistake the _________ of providence, but if we are sincere and faithful, we can not have the after mis- givings that might follow from carelessness. Even a disappointment under these circumstances is bearable. Christian contentment can only be enjoyed when the will of GOd is done. Ever since my first visit to Park Field I have felt an interest in you; and you have been very much the subject of my thoughts and prayers. I am sure I shall never forget
