There were several young children with Hannah and Lewis Timm when
they left for Nebraska. The new life in Nebraska must have agreed
because more children joined the family making a total of 13 children.
Caroline and Friedrich Bastian started housekeeping on land one-
quarter mile north from the Persohn homestead. As in the other fam-
ilies, death also was experienced in the first years of their mar-
ried life. Working conditions were primitive and doctors were scarce
and not always available when needed.
Brillion, Calumet Co.
