Meeting Held February 15, 1908
Norway, Wisconsin, February 15, 1908
We, the undersigned committee appointed by the President of the
Wind Lake Telephone Company to examine as to whether accounts of
receipts and expenditures of said company had been kept by Rev. 0.
E. Schmidt, have examined a book of such accounts kept by the said
Rev. 0. E. Schmidt and find therein recorded an account of all
money received and disbursed by said company for the first two
years of its existence or until said company was incorporated and
officers properly elected. We further find that the charge against
the said Rev. 0. E. Schmidt viz, that he distorted such accounts or
withheld same from said company by tearing out or otherwise
destroying the front pages of book in which such accounts were kept
is false and untrue. We have found as an absolute certainty that
such pages had no connection with the said Wind Lake Telephone
Company but were used by Ed Malone in his store. He having used
said book in his store before same was used by said company. The
reason for such company using such book was that the company went
to Ed Malone to buy a record book and Ed Malone not having any new
said that he had one in which he had used only a few pages and if
they wished it they might have same for gratis. We also find that
the charges of said Rev. 0. E. Schmidt having not paid any
telephone rent or switching toll is untrue as shown by treasurer's
record of said company for the years 1904, 1905, and 1906.
