years it took to drag stones to one place...
We crossed through a yard and over a meadow--across a creek they called "Venden Bekk" (I
tasted it!) and to the next little hill where the ruins of the Venden house stand and only the
stone foundations of the barns & sheds. Kolbjorn said that only the barn and house stood
when the Venden family left for America-the others were added later when the place was
used by the big farm as a whole and the house rented to an old woman.
Kolbjorn had 3 bottles of Coke in Oyvind's backpack--I sat down on the stones that were the
barn's foundation to drink mine--a hundred years go by and one of the Venden descendants
returns with a Coke in her hand--incredible!  The farm in the valley is called
"Solberg"--Olijanna's maiden name. Kolbjorn didn't know of Martin marrying such a
