Many, many years ago, in a time greatly preceding the recollection of anyone alive today, the birth of Port Washington took place. Some of the story, as it is told in this booklet is based on recorded fact, a portion is the speculation of others who followed on the "how", "when", and "why" events took place, and some, no doubt, is legend - the cherished folk-lore of our history, passed from one genera- tion to the next, as we attempt to hold on to the threads of our past which have brought us to this moment in time.
