Wilbert, Carl F. / History of the town of Mequon
([ca. 1990?])

George Virmond

George Virmond
Mr. George Virmond, a resident of Mequon for some time, a
member of the Meouon ilan Commission and the owner of a
64 acre farm located in Section 29, Range 22 East, Town
of Mequon, and bordering on Lake Michigan, died in June 1939.
A resolution was passed and a copy thereof was sent to Mrs.
George A. Virmond, expressing their deep regret and sorrow
at the passing from this life of George R. Virmond.
Mr. Virmond first bequeathed in his will his 64 acre farm to
the City of M ilwaukee in which he first resided and conducted
his shoe store. If the City of Milwa.kee would not or could
not accept it, then to the County of Ozaukee to be used
for the same purpose. After some considerable pressure on
the part of Mequon residents and the Mequon Club, the
County Board finally accepted the bequest in 1940. Some
improvements have been made to the grounds since then. It
was agreed that the Town of Ivequon police the premises
and the Lake Michigan shore appurtement thereto.
