ABOUT THE COVER: The sketch on the cover of this book depicts the first Wisconsin Chair Company factory which was completely destroyed by fire on Sunday, February 19, 1899. This building was originally the factory of the Port Washington Sash and Door Company which went bankrupt in the mid-1880s. Fred A. Dennett, of Sheboygan, purchased the building, and in 1888, transformed it into the Wisconsin Chair Company. Because of the Chair Company's rapid success and growth, various additions were made to the original Sash and Door Company building. This particular sketch comes from a special edition of the Port Washington Star newspaper, December 10, 1892, just seven years before the factory and a large part of downtown Port Washington were consumed by fire.
