This society was organised in 1870, and at the present time is in a high
tate of efficency. Offoers: President, K. V. Whiton; Vice President, 
J. Stoddard; Secretary, B. D. Stone; Treasurer, W. I. Whitnall. Board 
of Directors: A. P. Angell, M. 0. Fish, J. R Pease. 
The Janesville Weekly Gazette was established in 1848, more than 
thirty yew ago; the Daily Gazette in 1858, and the Semi-Weekly in 
1888. All these editions are printed by the Gazette Printing Company, 
of which General James Bintliff is President, It L Colvin, Trmurer, 
and A. M. Colvin, Secretary. The editorial department of the paper 
Is under the careful and able management of General Bintliff and the 
business department under the charge of Mr. Colvin. The Weekly 
Gazette is one of the largest and beet papers in Wisconsin. It dis- 
cusses all the live issues of the day and publishes a variety of choice 
miscellany from week to week, which in point of merit, is not sur- 
passed by any paper in the State. It is Republican in politics, and 
among the journals of that party, it has acquired an enviable reputa. 
tion as a bold and vigorous advocate of the principles which have led 
the Republican party of the nation from triumph to triumph for the 
past fifteen years. * It enjoys the firm and generous support of the in-
telligent readers of the county, as is shown from its flattering uireU. 
lation, which now reaches three thousand copies. The Daily Gazette 
Is one of the most enterprising daily papem in Wisconsin, is hand- 
somely printed, and besides containing a full selection of local matter,
and general news, receives all the latest telegraphic dispates and 
market reports. The job rooms of the Gazette are among the beet 
equipped in the State, having the facilities both as regards material
