This is the first history of Winnebago County ever compiled. As the county had a population of 135 in 1840 and 17,439 in 1855, this covers a period of extremely rapid growth. The authors were able to consult with many of the original settlers. They describe the land and native vegetation, list first settlers, and note the current industries, churches and schools.
