The Southern Wisconsin Cheesemakers' Association was
organized about 9 years ago by a few interested friends.
The Association at once was acknowledged to be a good
thing for the dairy industry of southern Wisconsin. Steadily
and gradually the work of the Association spread, new fields
explored and opened, new opportunities offered and accepted
until March 11th 1909 the Association reorganized into the
Southern Wisconsin Dairymen's and Cheesemakers, Associa-
tion and incorporated as such under the state laws of
Today with a membership of. about 450 this organization
leads every organization of its kind in the State and stands
very favorably with the best in the Jnited States. It has
been a patent factor in developing the dairy industry of the
state. It has been instrumental in changing many cheese
shanties into well equipped, modern cheesefactoiies. It has
made land valuable by encouraging the farmer to milk -
because he knows that his efforts in this line will bring
prompt and rich returns. It has assisted and helped out
many persons who were in trouble and thus saved these
parties and southern Wisconsin thousands of dollars.
X%-ith the hearty corperation on the part of all interested
in the great dairy iqdustry of the State the influence of this
Association on the same cannot be easily estimated. The
solving of such problems as the raising of alfalfa, the best
dairy cow, right feeding for milk, manufacture, care and
curing of cheese etc. are always uppermost in the work of
the Association. To this end this Association as in the
