Oxford April 27th 1856.
Dear brother and sister,
 It being rainy this sabbath morning we concluded to stay athome from meeting
today.  as it is a busy time of the year we would spend a part of the time
in writing to our friends.  We are both in the enjoyment of very good health
and have been all through the cold winter, since my recovery from ague I
have been able to do all my work washing and ironing included.  We hear you
have had a very cold winter, we also have had the coldest winter people say
that evey was known in Wisconsin, but have only had snow enough for beautiful
sleighing all sinter, the ground has now been settled as much as three weeks
more there will be plenty of feed for cattle.  Winter wheat looks nice, Smead
is going to sew five acres of Spring wheat and have one
