     To this Ashland county toviAi lumbering is of great importance. Two
large concerns give employment to a large number of townspeople and a veneer
mill is also a big asset, the latter being of greatest importance to the
community. The Butternut creamery also means much to the entire section.

     In 1922 'm. Curry founded this weekly.   He edited for only a year and
was succeeded by Lorne Anderson, who conducted it for another year and then
the present editor, Paul Fauteck, came aboard.

     The chief occupation in this vicinty is dairying. A large creamery,
owned by local farmers, manufactured more than a half-million pounds of
butter during the past year. There are five cheese factories, three of
which are cooperative. In the 1924 report, one of the cheese factories
showed a total income of over $49,000, over 250,000 pounds of cheese having
been manufactured and over Z4 million pounds of milk handled. There is
also a box factory and saw mill, as well as a grist mill and flour mill in
